Third Long COVID Congress in Berlin

On 25 November 2024, the Third Long COVID Congress was held in Berlin. In his speech, Federal Minister of Health Prof. Dr Karl Lauterbach made a powerful statement: “People’s quality of life is severely compromised (...) which is why we need to intensify our research efforts. Our care structure – which is what this congress is about – is anything but perfect”.

The congress was hosted by the Long COVID Medical Association (Ärzte- und Ärztinnenverband Long COVID) in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Health. The event offered a platform for exchange between professionals, patients with Long COVID, their relatives and representatives of self-help groups and initiatives. At the same time, it served to provide further training to professionals. About 260 guests participated in the event. In eight different rooms, participants discussed research projects and findings, diagnostic procedures and treatment approaches for Long COVID, focussing on topics such as the psychosocial and ethical aspects of the syndrome, treatment options or paediatric care. In addition, a workshop was conducted on how to improve care for children and adolescents with Long COVID.
