Revised “Long/Post COVID Syndrome” patient guideline published
The updated patient guideline on “Long/Post COVID Syndrome” has been available online since the end of September 2024. The revised guideline aims to serve as guidance and provide those affected as well as their relatives and loved ones with an overview of the syndrome. The guideline not only contains comprehensive information about the individual symptoms and their treatment, but also provides information about support services. In addition, it gives recommendations on what those affected can do by themselves to alleviate their symptoms.
A total of 29 medical societies as well as several patient organisations contributed to the guideline. It was compiled under the leadership of the German Respiratory Society (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Pneumologie und Beatmungsmedizin e.V.). The guideline is the patient edition of the S1 guideline “Long/Post COVID”, which is addressed to physicians and other medical professionals.

The Association of the Scientific Medical Societies e.V. (AWMF) is an umbrella organisation made up of 184 medical societies. The AWMF’s responsibilities include coordinating the development of medical guidelines for diagnosis and treatment in the different fields of medicine. Guidelines contain specific recommendations for action targeted at physicians, other medical professionals and patients. The guidelines always consider state-of-the-art scientific evidence.
