The comparative study by the Central Institute for Statutory Health Insurance in Germany (Zi) was carried out on the basis of cross-insurance and nationwide statutory health insurance (SHI) billing data.

The Zi is a research institute in the legal form of a foundation under civil law. The sponsors of the foundation are the Associations of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians and the Federal Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. As a central institution in the system of the Associations of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, the Zi conducts research at the interface between science and practice on crucial questions of the outpatient care situation.
