KBV
Kassenärztliche Bundesvereinigung (KBV) organises outpatient medical and psychotherapeutic care throughout Germany. Family doctor practices are the first contact point for those affected by long COVID.
As the umbrella organisation of the 17 Associations of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVs), the KBV plays a key role in the statutory health insurance system. Together with the KVs, it organises comprehensive outpatient healthcare close to home. Together with around 185,000 contract doctors and psychotherapists, it ensures that the approximately 73 million people with statutory health insurance receive outpatient help around the clock in the event of illness.
The system of outpatient care in Germany has proved its worth, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. The approximately 100,000 family doctor, specialist and psychotherapeutic practices facilitate low-threshold care for people. This means that almost all coronavirus patients can be treated on an outpatient basis. Practices are also ready to vaccinate: Over 88 million vaccinations against COVID-19 were carried out there within a year (as of April 2021 to April 2022).
The information provided by the KBV on long and post-COVID care is primarily aimed at experts. In addition, the KBV also offers a topic page for patients, which includes a podcast on the topic as well as study results from Zentralinstitut für die kassenärztliche Versorgung (ZI).
